One Year of Travel Adventures: Reflections and Gratitude

It feels surreal to be celebrating my first year as a travel advisor, especially in November—a month when we’re reminded to pause and give thanks. It’s fitting because I have so much to be thankful for.

Looking back, it’s hard to believe a whole year has passed since I embarked on this journey. Starting my own travel advisory business was a leap of faith, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Of course, there’s been a learning curve, and as I mark this milestone, I thought it would be fun to share a few lessons I’ve picked up along the way.

Lessons from Year One

  • Booking Travel for Others is a Whole New World
Planning my own vacations? A breeze. Planning someone else’s dream trip? A different ballgame. The stakes feel higher because I want every detail to be just right. Spoiler: travel isn’t always perfect, but it’s always memorable.

  • Terms and Conditions Are My New Best Friend
I used to breeze through the fine print. Now? I read it all—and then some. Knowing the details upfront helps avoid surprises later (and keeps my clients happy).

  • Listening is Key
This job isn’t about booking trips I’d enjoy—it’s about crafting experiences that align with your vision. Learning to truly listen and deliver on your dream is an art I’m constantly refining.

  • You Can’t Know Everything About Everywhere
The world is vast, and keeping up with destinations, regulations, and trends is a full-time job in itself. Research and continuing education are my secret weapons. I’ve also developed a process to cut through the noise and focus on what’s most important.

  • The Nuances of Travel Matter
From airport layouts to service quality, I’ve started seeing travel through a completely different lens. My own experiences now help me guide you toward seamless and stress-free adventures.

  • I Love What I Do
Planning itineraries has become my happy place. I could spend hours crafting the perfect trip, and I never stop learning. Transitioning from full-time healthcare operations work to travel advising has been a breath of fresh air.

  • Running a Business is No Vacation
While I love planning travel, the business side of things is… well, let’s call it a “learning opportunity.” From IT to marketing, it’s all me, all the time. And while it’s challenging, it’s also empowering.

  • Support Means Everything
To my friends and family who trusted me with their travel plans this year—thank you. Your support has meant the world to me, and it’s been such a joy helping you create memories.

Looking Ahead

As I wrap up this first year, I’m so excited for what’s to come. Whether it’s planning dream vacations, curating group trips, or exploring new destinations myself, I can’t wait to continue this journey with all of you.

Here’s to many more years of adventures, learning, and gratitude. If you’re ready to start planning your next great escape, let’s make it happen together!

Cheers to travel and thanks for being part of my journey,
