Celebrating Florence Nightingale: A Customized London Group Tour
I recently had the honor of organizing a truly meaningful trip to London for a group of 23 travelers, many of them healthcare professionals—nurses, nurse practitioners, and other specialties. The purpose? To celebrate the legacy and life of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, in the city where she made history.
With the invaluable expertise of Dr. Susan Hellier, PhD, DNP, FNP-BC, Professor of Robert Morris University, and the help from Mary Jo Cerepani, DNP, FNP-BC, ENP-C, FAANP, FAEN we created a customized itinerary that blended historical sightseeing with medical relevance. Traditional London landmarks were brought to life through a unique lens, as we wove in Florence Nightingale’s influence and the broader history of nursing into each day’s experience.
A Journey Through Florence Nightingale’s London
The group had private transportation and a dedicated tour guide throughout the trip (with the exception of their designated free day). This allowed for a seamless, personalized experience and gave us the flexibility to dive deeper into sites that had special meaning.
Highlights of the tour included:
The Florence Nightingale Museum, featuring an incredible actress portrayal that brought her story to life
A visit to Florence Nightingale’s grave and the accompanying church, a moving and reflective moment for many
A private tour of the Royal College of Nursing
Iconic destinations like Oxford and the charming town of Winchester, which pleasantly surprised many with their beauty and history
One traveler, Cynthia, shared:
“It was a really great trip! My favorite was the Florence Nightingale Museum and actress, and the Florence Nightingale grave/church. I liked Oxford more than expected. Loved the little town of Winchester and wish we had more time there.”
A Memorable and Meaningful Experience
The feedback from the group was overwhelmingly positive. For many, this was not just a vacation—it was a tribute to their profession and a chance to connect with fellow healthcare workers in a historic and inspiring setting.
If you have a group of 10 to 20 people and would like to replicate this trip—or design your own themed journey—I'd love to help make it happen. Whether it’s rooted in history, professional development, or simply a shared interest, customized group tours are a fantastic way to travel with purpose and connection.
