I’ve started planning for a 2027 Scotland group trip, and the more I research, the more I realize how much this remarkable country has to offer. From legendary golf courses and ancient castles to misty islands and cinematic landscapes, Scotland blends tradition with unexpected experiences that make it ideal for curious travelers.
Below is a preview of what makes Scotland such an unforgettable destination.
National Parks & Islands: Scotland’s Wild Beauty
Scotland is home to two breathtaking national parks and roughly 93 inhabited islands (plus hundreds more uninhabited), making it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.
o Cairngorms National Park - the largest national park in the United Kingdom, Cairngorms offers a true Highland experience. Unlike many parks, Cairngorms is occupied with residents so there are charming towns, whiskey distilleries and historic sites in addition to mountain trails and scenic swimming spots. It’s the perfect blend of nature, culture, and local life.
o Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park is a short drive from Glascow and is also located in the Highlands. It offers lochs, forests and rugged peaks for hiking and boating and even has 2 waterfalls.
o Isle of Skye - one of Scotland’s most beloved islands, Skye is famed for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, fairy pools, and medieval castles. Expect misty weather and pack rain gear—but the moody atmosphere is part of the magic.
